LUBBOCK, TX—Funeral services for former Lawton, resident Retired, U. S. Army Staff Sergeant Clarence Wright, age 82, will be at 12:00 Noon--Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Frontier Chapel (4121 Thomas Road), in Fort Sill, Oklahoma with Chaplain (MAJ) James Blount, officiating.
Family Visitation and Viewing: 12 Noon until 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the funeral home (101 West Gore Blvd.), in Lawton.
Retired Army SSgt. Clarence Wright died Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Lubbock, Texas. Burial with military honors will be in 2 p.m.--Fort Sill National Cemetery, in Elgin, under the directions of Jefferson Funeral Home, Inc.—Lawton.
Clarence Wright was born July 18, 1927 to Maggie Wright and Albert White, in Holly Hill, South Carolina. He completed high school and entered the United States Army on March 18, 1946 at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. During military service, he served 2-tours of duty in Korea; and 2-tours in Germany; and was also assigned to Hawaii, Fort Bliss, Texas, Fort Ord, California and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Military accolades and awards includes: Army Overseas Medal; Good Conduct Medal-3rd Award; Sharpshooter (Rifle); Marksman (Carbine), World War II Victory Medal. He retired May 31, 1966 while assigned to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). After his military retirement, he attended Cameron University in Lawton, where he earned his associate degree in accounting. He retired from civil service after 20-years of service as an ambulance driver at Reynolds Army Hospital (RACH) at Fort Sill. A longtime resident of Lawton, Oklahoma, he transferred to the United States Postal Service at Lubbock, Texas where he finally retired at Reese Air Force Base while working in the Commissary. He was a Baptist, and a former member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, and in later years, he attended services at Sheridan Road Chapel (now Frontier Chapel) at Fort Sill. He loved reading the Bible, fishing and playing golf.
He married Euna Wright and adopted two sons--Kerry and Otha.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE. His wife, Euna Wright, of the home; two (2) sons: Kerry Lawrence Terry, of Round Rock, Texas and Otha Lee Terry, of Vancouver, Washington; eight (8) grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Essie Fields, of Orangeburg, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew: Maurice Van-Hannegyn, of Charleston, South Carolina, as well as other relatives and friends in the Lawton and Lubbock Communities.
His mother, Maggie Van-Hannegyn, his father, Albert White, his sister, Shirley Van-Hannegyn, and his brother, Alfonzo Fields preceded him in death.
