George B. Dawkins

LAWTON—Funeral services for Retired Army Sergeant George B. Dawkins, age 86, will be at 11:-00 a.m.--Monday, February 22, 2010 at Liberty Heights Chapel (706 SW 17th Street), in Lawton, Oklahoma with Pastor Wayne Schoonover, officiating.
Sgt Army (Retired) George B. Dawkins died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at his home in Lawton.  Burial with military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery, in Elgin, under the directions of Jefferson Funeral Home, Inc.—Lawton.
He was born May 6, 1923 to Alfred and Margaret (Clark) Dawkins in Paris, Texas. After completion of school, he entered the United States Army and served more than 20-years before retiring in 1969. During military service, he completed numerous military schoools and training and received many awards, decorations and citations to include the Purple Heart.  His military duties as a welding specialist took him to Europe, Japan, Korea and numerous military bases within the United States including Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he was assigned to the Pershing Missile System. After retiring from the Army, he continued his skills as a welder and surface mining supervisor with Doleses Mining Company and as an independent operator with many local businesses to include the late Dan Delluomo.  He was a member of the American Foreign Legion Post 193, the Pershing Missle (Black Jack) Chapter Association, and Disabled American Veterans Association.  He was a member of Liberty Heights Chapel Church in Lawton.
He married Inez Valentino. She preceded him in death in 1996.
In addition to his wife, Inez, his parents, a son, Rudolph, two brothers, Alfred Dawkins and Lewis Dawkins preceded him in death.
SURVIVORS INCLUDE.  One (1) daughter and his son-in-law, Gloria Green-Gaines and Crynell (Tiger) Gaines, of the home; two (2) sons and his daughter-in-law, Darrell Dawkins and Rosa, of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Benny Jackson, of Los Angeles, California, six (6) grandchildren: Michael and Arron Green, of Lawton, Shannon Ellis and her husband, Cliff, of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Doretha Slone, of Los Angeles, California, Shandy Ortiz and her husband, Oscar, of Memphis, Tennessee and Jarron Green, of Lawton; ten (10) great grandchildren, many cousins, other relatives and close friends.
